Island Dreaming on this October Day~

dsc02822
Vancouver Island is full of stunning hiking opportunities. This Marina was the trailhead for one hike,
dsc02869
where we were greeted by a curious fawn!
dsc01902
The hike wound through pristine rain forest,
dsc01910
and river gorges with wildlife all around us.

dsc03059
The beach was mostly empty and the water so pristine, it formed perfect mirrored surfaces for reflection.
dsc02850
A killdeer was unconcerned with our arrival at his beach.

dsc03029
The crystalline sea water,
dsc03043
makes sea anenome look like they weren’t under water.
dsc03045
Although all of these shots were taken through sea water, there was no distortion. This is what perfectly clean sea water looks like. We don’t have this in California!
dsc03046
We have been home at The Holler for several weeks now, but these photos send cheers to you from beautiful and unspoiled Vancouver Island~

Peregrine Precision~

dsc01600
Peregrines dive as if in a dream,
dsc01602
snatching birds in mid-flight,

dsc01752
landing to administer the coup de grace.
dsc01742
Mantling prey on the ground for seconds,

dsc01726

they soon return to rule the skies!

dsc01566
Cheers to you from the lightening-fast-Falcons~

Note: Peregrine Falcons are the fastest-moving creatures on earth and have been clocked diving at up to 242 mph!

Glassine Visions~

dsc03101
Seattle’s Garden and Glass Museum showcases the magical worlds created by glass artist Dale Chihuly.
dsc03100
Chihuly creates huge glass wonderlands,
dsc03093-1
resembling hallucinatory under-seascapes,
dsc03095

full of phantasmagorical deep-sea creatures.

dsc03110
Mirrors create reflective visions like crystalline creatures from outer space.

dsc03115
There are magic mushrooms,
dsc03122
glowing like alien forms,

dsc03137
in surreal secret gardens.
dsc03145
Visiting here one feels much like Alice with a two-way ticket to wonderland!
Cheers to you from the inventive worlds of Dale Chihuly~

Little Cabin in the Big Woods~

dsc01929
We had been to The Knight Inlet in Canada before on a day trip by small boat and always wanted to come back and stay. This is the dock area in Campbell River on Vancouver Island where we met our pilot,
dsc02790
and boarded our plane for the flight into the inlet.
dsc01943
The trip in is stunning and carries you deep into pristine wilderness.
dsc01981
Here is our little cabin in the big woods. It is new construction and sits on the water’s edge.

dsc01977
It is tiny, but charming, and has everything you need.

dsc02576
This is your view when you wake in the misty morning.

dsc02677

In the inlet you are surrounded by wildlife.

dsc02697
There are harbor seals,

dsc02629
and Stellar sea lions, and whales, birds, wolves, cougars,

dsc02262

and of course, the star attraction,

dsc02398
the grizzlies!
Cheers to you from gorgeous Canada~
