Mahogany blooming in the High Sierra,
with sailor seeds,
ready to fly to their new home.
Blooming in high altitude
they blanket hillsides
with seeds like summer snow~
Cheers to you from blooming Mahogany that grows only in the Western US & Mexico~
Klasse Fotos. Wolfgang
Ihre Freundlichkeit wird sehr geschatzt, Wolfgang. Danke mein Freund ~
Awesome photos. Thanks. It’s nice to learn something every day.
It is one of the many reasons I love blogging and bloggers. I learn from them everyday!
These are simply gorgeous, Cindy. 🙂
Awww, I am so glad you think so & cheers to you~
Beautiful!!!
I had never seen them in bloom before and they covered the mountains~
An amazing mix of colors and textures. 😀
I thought so too and I had no idea what they were! Thank goodness for google~
Been there done that with birds and flowers and ….
Exactly, where oh where would we be without google……

Fluffy magic! 🙂 <3
That is is better name for this post!
😀
I will bet money that hardly anyone zeros in on the magnificence of these blossoms! Beautiful.
They are impressive aren’t they and they just blanketed the mountain sides~
Wonderful show from Mother Nature, beautifully captured. I am especially entranced by the first image. Awesome photography as always, Cindy.
Awww, your kindness is so appreciated.
Wonderful photographs, Cindy. Love the first image that shows all the little details of the blooms. Such a unique type of flower.
Of course I had no idea what they were and had to google them!

What a beautiful thing, Cindy! I’ve never seen it before. 🙂
You and I both! It was a happy surprise~
Reminds me of cotton wood trees. When their seeds get released in the spring I thought my airway was closing and I’d cough and cough when I was gardening and have to flee to the indoors for a drink of water and a breath of fresh air. I shudder at the memory.
That sounds scary! These guys are engineered for travel, by the wind, or on some critters fur~
What beautiful photos.
Ah, thank you very much!
Beautiful, Cindy. I’m not sure I ever knew that mahogany trees bloomed ?? Thanks. ☺
Technically they are in the rose family and are not true maghogany. They named them this because their wood is dense, hard and heavy like maghogany.
Beautiful seedheads. Neat to see!
I had to come back after hiking and google them. How did we ever exist without google?

IKR? I often wonder the same!
😂
Nicely caught. It’s a pity one can’t hitch a ride. 😀
Oooooh, we would travel to mysterious places!
. . . with collars pulled up in a mysterious manner. 🙂

Tee hee. Nice hat. 🙂
🙂
Beautiful textures. Wonder if I’ll see them hiking around SF. Great shots, Cindy.
If you do, please post! Would love to see more of them~
Beautiful…Janet:)
Merci beaucoup mon ami~
Nice shots, Cindy.
Hope your comment replies don’t disappear again. That must’ve been maddening. With WP, sometimes it can be one thing or another. 🙂
Yes and it is anxiety provoking. I was really pleased with how they handled and resolved this problem though~
Beautiful photos. I especially like the full shot of all the trees. I’ve never even heard of them before today. Well done!!!!
I am so pleased you enjoyed them and thanks much for the kind words~
Love the wonderful detail in your photos, I was not familiar with this tree…Love the stunning view in the last image in your series.
Oh, I am honored. Thank you very much & cheers to you~
What an interesting tree and excellent photos.
Thank you for such a lovely comments & cheers to you Stephanae~
My pleasure 😃
<3
Beautiful photos – saw this when we lived in CA. The contrasts in textures is delightful.
Well you are ahead of me. I didn’t know what it was!
The close-up picture is stunning, what an interesting tree.
Apparently it thrives on rocky, gravely slopes at high altitude with little water which is why it is thriving in California right now~
Awesome!
Merci beaucoup mon ami~
Thank you for great images of what until today had been unknown to me.
Thank you more for your kind comment and be well!
The photos have so much detail in them. And such interesting fascination information. Excuse the dumb question, Cindy, but is it the same kind of trees that make such beautiful mahogany furniture? I have an antique mahogany table that I found at a thrift store that has such a beautiful finish and reddish wood grain.
It is a very perceptive question! It is named mahogany because it has dense, heavy, hard, wood like your table, even though it is not technically in the mahogany family, but rather in the rose family. Mahogany furniture is gorgeous and yours sounds like a lucky find.
Yes, I think so. It’s always helpful to know more about the different kinds of woods.
<3
What a lovely tale of the changing of the seasons and how nature moves across our land in many ways. 🙂
And our little state of Caly is full of all kinds of wonder, but you already know this!
Indeed it is. We are soooo fortunate to be a part of it!
Whenever I read your words “Cheers from…” I feel that I have been enveloped within your adventures!!
I smile every time I hear from you my dear Rebecca! By blog would not be the same without you. <3 <3
How lovely are the ways nature has, to insure that life goes on…..
Even we, will be recycled and always a part of it all~
Gorgeous composition and textures in that first picture.
Never see these blooms before – thanks!
Thank you much more for the thoughtful appreciation~
The last time I saw a mahogany tree was in Belize. I love your wonderfully furry trees.
Those fuzzies were loaded for seeding action!
Love all this feathery wispiness. Beautiful!
Each one slightly different like summer snowflakes~
So beautiful. Nature really knows how to put on a show.
She is the best ever isn’t she!

That is interesting shape and texture. They look good from closeup and as a whole tree. Beautiful captures.
Awww, thank you my friend and hope all is well with you!
Amazing colour and texture! Breathtaking.
Ah, so pleased you enjoyed and thank you too!
Beautiful. They’re like blossoms from trees on another planet …
The upper elevations of The Sierras and The Whilte Mountains definitely have other worldly trees. I love seeing them in new ways like these in bloom!
Beautiful, Cindy. I love the close-ups. So unusual!
They are unusual and they were blooming everywhere which was an amazing sight!
Fascinating, Cindy, and great photos! 🙂 <3
Thank you Natalie & cheers! <3
Cheers Cindy❣😘
I’ve never seen these in bloom; how intriguing, and beautiful! Your photo captions are pure poetry, too : ) Thank you!
Awww, what a lovely comment and very motivating. Thank you!
Never seen those..so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I am happy you appreciate them! Thank you~
Cindy, you made me realize that I’ve never seen a Mahogany tree until now. Can you believe that? I’m glad to be seeing one in bloom now on your blog though! How exotic and otherworldly! I love the sight of feathery soft seeds floating away – like from dandelions, etc. and now I know Mahogany trees have them too. Thank you! <3
The only hitch here is that although these trees are called mahogany, they technically belong to the rose family. Just to add to the confusion, someone named them this, because their hard, durable wood resembled mahagony in composition. So really you are looking at a high altutude tree from the rose family that thrives in hostile, low water, rocky soil. That is interesting enough I know, in it’s own right, despite the mis-leading nomeclature.
Oh thank you for the additional insight Cindy! Good to know to avoid confusion! 🙂
An interesting plant, Cindy, well-represented by your photos. Fly away indeed. The wood, btw, is so dense it sinks in water. –Curt
Exactly, and it can’t be used for lumber (thank God) because it is so hard.
Hi Cindy,
Wasn’t sure what I was looking at until I saw what you’d written. I’ve never seen or heard of this tree but it sure looks interesting. Great pics, cuz. ……. :).
When you heading west cuz????
??????? Don’t know yet, but for sure, California is a priority on the agenda. Hope it would be at a time that we could visit. Hugs, Cuz.
I hope so too!

Isn’t nature beautiful?
Unbelieveably so! 🌳
Wonderful set! By the way, I’ve started a 2nd blog because the old one had come to it’s limit; it’s: https://harrienijland2.wordpress.com and there is a blue follow-button on the right side, just in case… Hope to see you there.
Heading over there now. Thanks for the heads up~

Gratitude for you my caring friend~ 🌳🌳🌳
At first glance I thought the first picture was of a particularly odd insect or arachnid. Very lovely though.
It is always such a pleasure to hear from you! They are very different aren’t they, and were a surprise to me too. Heading over now to see what’s up at your blog~
🙂
Beautiful scenes. That mountain mahogany looks like some plant from another planet, an alien. I’ve never seen anything like that before. 🙂 — Suzanne
Yes, between the ancient bristlecones, the redwoods, the joshua trees, all the cacti, and now the mountain mahoganey, Caly has some very unusual native trees and plants! 🌳
A lovely set
just beautiful!
I’ve never seen anything like this, Cindy, and it’s so beautiful! Thank you for capturing it so I can enjoy it!
If your enjoyed them Debbie, then I am happy I posted! 🌳🌳
Gorgeous, Cindy. 🙂
Ahhh, merci beaucoup mon ami~ <3
De rien mon ami. 🙂

My but that day looks clear and that air looks clean!
The cool clean high Sierra air!
Amazing shots, Cindy! The first one is like a rich tapestry. I’m sure many a needle work piece ( a camera from the past) was inspired by such images.
That would be incredibly fun to find!
Such unique beauty – and incredible captures Cindy. Thank you so much 💛
You are a lovely friend Val. Thank you~ <3
I don`t know this type of trees
I had never seen them in bloom either~

Because I have amazing friends like you who appreciate me. Visa versa 2Ux2! 🌳🌳
I took my iPad to the hospital last night for Tom to enjoy photos, he always comments on yours, and always to the good. As nurses and other staff came in and out you received the appropriate number of ohs and aughs . . .
I can only say – beautiful.
I am honored and so appreciative. Thank you & cheers too~ 🌳🌳
I have never seen this! And I love the way you photographed it so it would be recognizable viewed closely or in the distance!
Yes, because I had never seen blooming them either and I knew we needed to see it from all angles. Thank you so much for noticing! 🌳🌳

That is kind Cindy. I can imagine what Polly Stretton would do with it. Wee folk and the fairy folk are so in her area. I do hope she sees those photos! xx
I would love to see her version!
So would I. I thought she followed your blog and perhaps you her? I shall have to find that link and give her another challenge… she did a wonderful job on the last one I gave her but it did take awhile as she is so busy. 🙂 xx
I do follow Polly and love her!
Cindy, I was sure I had seen your photo as someone who had clicked the Like button on her blog and also some comments. She has done some amazing posts about the wee folk, fairies and the like. I imagine these fairies dancing for Degas… what’s not to love with Polly?
By the way, did you ever read her book Chatterton? I am mad about the concept and of course love her interpretation. It makes me want to do something similar as I love old paintings and photos as they all have a story to tell. xx
I do follow Polly and I love her too. She is super talented and very creative, just like you Lea. This is why I love blogging so! I get to meet such clever, talented people from all over our small world. Bisous Lea~
You are right. Polly is marvellous and I enjoy so many of the people I have met through blogging. Some, like yourself, open new doors for me places and things I should never see otherwise. Some have carved places into my heart yet they no longer post, fortunately we did exchange email and postal info much earlier. I am grateful to so many.
Bisous Cindy~
I feel as you do Lea. I have made so many wonderful friendships, like you my California colleague in France! At the airport now flying out of the USA. Cheers to you Lea and be well~
Have a wonderful journey and I shall look forward to your beautiful photos. Bisous et clines

Thank you for sharing, Cindy! I have never seen mahogany, much less in bloom!
Just to complicate things, although named mahogany, this tree is actually in the rose family. It was named mahogany because it’s hard, dense wood is similar to mahogany. But you know what they say, a mahogany by any other name……
So that’s what mahogany looks like! I’ve only ever seen mahogany furniture, which is very beautiful. I particularly love the first picture, with the contrasting colours of the blooms against that brilliant blue sky.

So feather light and at the same time strong… a delight to see.
It was a surprise to me too. I’ve never seen these in bloom and you are right, light as a feather and impervious to almost everything~
That is a gorgeous, feathery tree. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those before. Beautiful photos, Cindy!
I had never seen them blooming either! So pleased I could introduce you & cheers to you Lavinia~🌳

Hi Cindy! Wow! I had never seen Mahogany trees in bloom. They’re beautiful and strange in a nice way. Lovely pictures.
Our world is full of wonder. Cheers to you Vashti and thank you~
I have never heard of Mountain Mahogany, but what a gorgeous tree! Once again, your photos have treated me to beauty I’ve never had the opportunity to witness.
I am honored to be able to make the introduction and thank you for such lovely thoughts~
Delightful photos of the mountain mahogany, Cindy. We have it in no. Calif. too and it hasn’t started blooming yet, but your post has reminded me of a great delight that awaits.
I would love to have it blooming around me! Cheers to you and enjoy~
The first one is especially beautiful! I have received these two recent posts through my reader… 😕
Thank you Amy. Are you not signed up to receive posts through your reader?
I probably need to re-subscribe. Whenever WP makes some sort of changes, I have to go through this…
WordPress hiccups give me indigestion!
Thanks to your beautiful photos the seeds have flown to new homes all over the world!
I can visualize one floating into your New Zealand garden right now and imagine it enjoying itself there!
🙂 🙂 And the birds would you use it to feather their nests. The birds are so busy at the moment gathering nest material. Such fun to watch them.
It would make ideal nesting material wouldn’t it, and it might even germinate in the nest!!
Wow..Jus amazing to see the pics, will be much more amazing to be there .😊 I wish I could just go there in these mahogany forests and get lost for a week or so…N enjoy the vibrant beautiful nature.!!
Escaping into woods, mountains and nature is my favorite thing to do, so I hope you do it. Just don’t get lost!
Hahaha…😀Surely…but if I do so lyf will be much peaceful and simple..
<3
I love these, well photographed!
Thank you for your thoughtfulness & cheers~

I just this second sent you a message and now I am reading yours. What a lovely happenstance that we were both thinking of each other at this time. I wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so very sorry about the death of your beautiful Michele. The last years have been so hard for you both. Words are insufficient to express my care and concern for you Sherri. I hope you can feel this.. Sending you prayers, hugs and love, and hopes for peace and healing.
Beautiful! I recently went on a trip to Ladakh , it has amazing mountains. Check them on my blog?
