“Trade winds and galleons lost in the sea,
I know that treasure is waiting for me.”
Morrison was right, Lisbon is a treasure trove.
We are traveling back and forth between Portugal and Spain for the next several weeks.
As the poet, Alvaro de Campos wrote, we will be revisiting Lisbon,
“O gentle, silent, ancestral Tagus,
I really like the art works or the paintings on the houses.
Amazingly talented artists aren’t they!

Cindy, once again a great post. One day, I hope to get there. Some friends nearby are thinking of moving to Portugal so I already have an invitation. Thanks for the preview! 🙂 xx
Oh, I hope you do go visit your friends Lea. This is the first time we are spending appreciable time in Portugal and we are sincerely charmed. Be well my friend~
Cindy, they haven’t moved yet. It is still in the discussion stage. He wants to move to Spain, she to Portugal. My money is on Barbara. 😉 A votre santé mon amie!
Everything is in such vibrant color. Lovely pictures, Cindy. 🙂 — Suzanne
Thank you! It is a vibrant and colorful country~
that one piece (mural) is certainly interesting, the male has a robatic face, is there a storyline there? Everything is greening here, enjoy and stay safe
I am sure there is but we can all approach it with our own interpretation. I found the ship being crushed by the human machine especially compelling~
I love Portugal, one of my favourite holiday destinations. Love your photos Cindy.
I am late to experiencing the wonders of Portugal, but, as they say, better late than never~
So glad you had the opportunity.
Lovely photographs from Portugal – looking forward to seeing what your travels bring.
I am so happy you are traveling along with me!
Great photos, Cindy and I wish you a lovely holiday. Lisbon is one of my favourite capital cities and I almost didn’t return to the cruise ship after our visit there as I just wanted to stay on. This reawakened wonderful memories.
It is such a gorgeous city to approach from the water, and this of course was how it was originally designed.
The colors are electric and the art always a pleasure to see what local’s paint. wonderful post
I am blown away by the talent of these artists!
Yes indeed
Wow what amazing beauty! Have lots of fun in your travels! I would love to see Spain someday too! Hugz Lisa and Bear
I was looking at the weather forecast for Spain and I saw “tormentos” in the forecast. I like this term so much better than storms!
Gorgeous. Thanks for taking us with you!
The experience is richer with you along Carrie. Be well my friend~
🙂
These are lovely,Cindy. 🙂
As are you Ranu~ <3
Thank you Cindy, you are very kind.
What a treat to take a virtual tour with you on Saturday morning. Thank you so much, Cindy! I’d love to visit there someday. 🙂
Portugal is quite unique and different from Spain. I hope you do visit & cheers to you Amy.
Wow, so beautiful. Have a great time traveling ☺️
So kind and so appreciated! Thank you~
I cant remeber having seen these murals when we were there a decade ago. Many things change, of course. Nice pictures. Keep on sending… 🙂
I bet they weren’t there. So pleased you are enjoying the clicks and have experienced Portugal yourself~
Something about those clay-colored roofs between the blue of the sky and sea, just makes me want to visit! Every time! Lovely photos, Cindy
Yes, it has a elemental warmth and welcoming feel that I respond too also. No beige suburbs in sight!
The art work on the buildings is truly amazing! Thank you for sharing your fabulous adventures with us!
I want to get some time to find out about the mural artists. Such incredible talent and creativity!
Great art works there on the walls! Great journey and joyful days ahead!
Pretty amazing. Love such incredible art for all to see. They will have to save the buildings to keep the art!
Great!
They are an artistic lot! Beautiful photographs.
Some countries just seem to have artistry flowing through their national veins~
So colourful and nicely caught. Looks like you’re having good weather for it. Just stay away from the plain (in Spain). 🙂
Unfortunately we have already encountered the rain in Spain that doesn’t fall mainly on the plain. They call the rain tormentos. Love this!
I spent quite a lot of time in Portugal, in the 1970’s (before tourists discovered it…it was a real bargain..you could rent a villa on the Algarve for peanuts!) and have many memories and enough stories to become a Fado singer in a Lisbon nightclub. It’s a magical place, for sure.
Oh, what wonderful memories you must have! I wish we could fly back in a time capsule and meet up in Algarve and I could watch you sing! Click our heels twice, NOW, and let’s see what happens!
hmmmmmmm………nada. Oh well, we can still travel there in our imaginations!
Urban renewal not welcome here!
Exactemente! No glass cube buildings either please~
Beautiful photos, Cindy Thanks for sharing. I feel like I went on a little trip with you.
Leslie
You did, and we had fun!
We did.
Leslie
Gorgeous photos, Cindy. I love, love seaside cities – they always have such history and verve.
So kind and such perfect descriptors of Lisbon!
I have to say, Lisbon is one of my very favourite cities I have visited to date. So beautiful!
It is incredible isn’t it! Especially amazing when viewed from the water.
Beautiful color,beautiful photos !!!
I love very much all the photos !
Ahhhh, I love you for loving them! 🙂
Some interesting murals there!
The talent is quite impressive~
So incredibly beautiful, such a lovely and enchanting place, in additon my favorite language is portuguese! Thank you Cindy.
One of the languages I am least proficient at. I once had a Portuguese boyfriend but all I learned from him was how to swear in Portuguese.
haha, thats too funny!
🙂
Fabulous post, my friend. Take me to Portugal, too 😀
Cheers to you, Cindy, from Romania! <3
I wish I could beam you right over and then we could head to Romania! <3
Thank you, Cindy <3
So beautiful Cindy!
It is just a delightful city!
What a beautiful travel – Portugal is absolutely marvelous – Do have a nice time Cindy 🙂
I am late to discover Portugal, but very glad I finally am!
What a lovely vacation you’re having, Cindy! Thank you for sharing it with those of us who have never been to Portugal…or Spain. Looks like you’re having delightful weather, too. Happy Mother’s Day tomorrow and safe travels always!
Well the weather has been all over the place, but there is always something beautiful to see, rain or shine!
Oh, those tiles are gorgeous.
Thank you so much for noticing the tile seller! I was charmed by this.
You have no idea how much I try to find some Mediterranean tiles for my back splash in the kitchen. 🙂
It’s a wonderful space…just came back…so beautiful ☺️
Ahhh so kind and so appreciated! we are going to be moving around Portugal and Spain so I hope you will join me.
I’m back in Alberta now…maybe next time Cindy ☺️ enjoy your travels!
Oh course, I meant virtually!
Beautiful post, Cindy!
Ahhh, thanks much~
Glad my country, gets so many nice words from you! Come to the north region as well and you’ll see a totally different place! 😀 Boa viagem!
We are going to Porto and Aviero so far by train, but maybe further north. Your country is so incredibly wonderful.
Braga will be a great option too, I live very close to it, it’s raining cats and dogs today, still a unique place! 😀
Yes, we have the same rain here. The Spanish call it tormentos. I love this name.
Oh what beautiful weather. Thanks for reminding me of our trip last fall. Loved our 2 days in Lisbon.
So glad you were there. It is good to be almost everywhere! 🙂
That last one looks like the Golden Gate!
Yes, although the April 25th Bridge looks to me so much longer. I tried to find out the relative lengths and got gobbled up by inconsistent measuring variables, all of which indicated the Golden Gate was longer, even though it doesn’t look that way to me. Here’s what I can tell you, The April 25th Bridge, I would name, ‘The Singing Bridge.’ It has six lanes for vehicles on the top and two for trains on the bottom. When you are in the water underneath it, the singing hum rises in cadence like a mouth harp magnified from heaven. The sound is so beautiful, it was almost overwhelming.
Oh wow….I would love to experience that hum! It sounds amazing. I guess that bridge is sort of like the old bay bridge when they had trains running underneath. Interesting!
Love traveling with you, Cindy! 😉 Your photos portray such beauty!
And you have the heart to receive it. <3
I have always wanted to go to Portugal and your photos make me want to go even more! I’m amazed how that last picture looks so much like the Golden Gate – even with the development on one side and the more natural terrain on the other.
Yes, it seem longer to me than the GG but apparently it is not. It has two tracks underneath for trains and makes a loud singing noise continually that is incredibly beautiful.
Did you buy a tile? Lovely photographs and it sounds wonderful.
I didn’t buy a tile because it was really the collection of all together that seemed so special. I would break up the collection!
And cheers right back from Poland. Enjoy, Cindy! XX
A place I dearly want to visit! My maternal grandmother’s family came from there.
Great shots, Cindy. Did you buy tile for shipping home? (I would have a hard time resisting!) I loved the white cubed cobblestone streets there and in Lisbon, my favorite museum was the often-overlooked Gulbenkian. Marvelous collection. Enjoy your journey!
Oh thank you for the tips! I will check out the Gulbenkian and no, I didn’t buy a tile. I would like to buy an antique angel somewhere in Spain or Portugal.
I hope you find one! Post it if you do. 🙂
It looks wonderful!
It is just so! 🙂
I am so enjoying this journey with you. The colors of the countryside and the water…exquisite!!
So happy you are traveling along with me! It makes the trip more fun! <3
It’s great travelling with you, Cindy 🙂 Your pictures give the feeling of a virtual tour…
Oh, so happy you are traveling along with me in a virtual way!
Beautiful photos.
So pleased you enjoyed.
Oh, I just love stained glass! Been collecting images of beautiful stained glass art, so thanks for sharing that one with us. And, of course, I also love the art on the buildings (never seen anything like that before), tiles, and views. Enjoy your time there Cindy!
Beautiful pictures. I love the house murals. What a somber poem! Where did you come up with that?! During a 1970 odyssey of my youth I motorcycled through Spain and southern Portugal. Fond memories.
It is a somber poem. I think Alvaro was Portugal’s poet laureate at one time, although I mam not certain of this. What an incredible experience to motorcycle through Spain and Portugal. You must have some amazing memories.
Eine Traumstadt! Tolle Fotos!
Vielen dank mein Freund! Du bist sehr nett~
I love Portugal. Beautiful photos.
It is an eye opener spending time here and I wonder why it took us so long!
You capture the essence of the places in your photos Cindy I love cyber travelling with you.
You know how much I value our virtual friendship Pauline. Be well my friend~ <3
It is reciprocated Cindy. Take care in your travels.
Lovely shots, Cindy! When we’re ready for our trip to Spain and Portugal, I’d like to ask you for your recommendations. We’ve just been to Barcelona and loved it. Enjoy your travels. They sound wonderful.
I would love to share anything useful with you. Let me know and take good care~
Whenever I read your posts, I think of my favourite travel quote: “I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.” And my dear friend, you do move. And I love moving with you…Safe travels.
I remember well we both memorized RLS’s “The Swing” as children. He “gets it” doesn’t he! Hugs to you Rebecca and be well my friend~
I have been traveling the world through your blog. You visit some of the most beautiful, interesting places! Happy Mothers Day to you, Cindy.
You make my travels more meaningful! Happy Mothers Day to you Lavinia~
Such beautiful photos! I enjoy every place you visit through the eye of you camera.
Ahhhh, such a thoughtful comment! Cheers to you~
I know where I’ll be traveling next 🙂
Oh wonderful! I look forward to hearing your impressions~
Try and get hold of a copy of Glass by Jenifer [sic] Roberts, it’s a great read and you will find out so much about Portugal.
Thanks for the lead. I am looking for it now, seems hard to find though.
Wonderful photos, Cindy. I absolutely love Lisbon having spent a week in an apartment there, in the old part of the city. I keep promising myself I’ll go back.
Oh that must have been fun! We are going to do this in France next year. I love the home away feeling!
Me too, Cindy. I find I relax more.
You whet my appetite for Portugal. Lisbon looks divine.
Alison
It is a beautifully designed old city and you would love it, if you can find space for it in your busy traveling agenda. Someday, we may actually be in the same place at the same time!
THAT would be fabulous!
Amazing colours! I wonder why they decided to make their roof orange. It must be the natural colour of soil when they bake roof tiles?
I love the terra cotta roof colors too which can be seen in much of Europe, probably came from the color of the clay. The Romans used it extensively. We went to the most gorgeous Moorish castle that was 1000 years old and they have no clay tile roofs which made it stand out!
Cindy, what a beautiful city. Thank you for sharing! Hugs! Veraiconica
Thank you for virtually traveling with me Veraiconica and be well~

Thanks for these great scenes, Cindy. I’ve never been to Portugal. It looks lovely.
Thank you cynthia, this is the first time I have really explored Portugal and it is a wonderful surprise!
Ahhh! Seeemplay maahhhvelusss, mah deah !!! Enjoy !!!!!!! 🙂
Laughing, sunny Spain & Portugal which I unwisely named a prior post has turned out to be stormy Spain & Portugal. But it is all good. My son leaves today for Switzerland where the high temps on some days are negative zero celsius. He’s going to need to buy thermal underwear in mid-May!
That is a beautiful place, indeed. I love roving the world in your photos.
You are the best traveling companion Brenda! <3
LOL I don’t even need to share the bathroom.
Magical images, Cindy! 🙂
Thanks my friend. Lisbon is a magical city~

How amazing to visit so many beautiful destinations ☺ Love those house wall designs!
So little time, so much to see in this great big world and I agree with you, I am bowled over by street artists gifting us with this much talent~

Absolutely loved the buildings covered in wall murals and I can never look at stained glass enough. So rich in color.
Yes, these things affect me too. Today, in Madrid I saw such amazing stained glass. I am posting some of it today. It was modern and so gorgeous!

Your’e there!! beautiful views across the city. Can’t wait to see your further adventures!! (are you going to Seville?).
Hopefully yes! We are in Madrid now and WOW!!!!
Madrid– it’s monumental!! sort of a copy of Haussmann’s Paris, built about the same time. good food and so many museums! I’m going over to your blog to check for pics!
Beautiful Portugal! 🙂
(BTW, how did ‘bernard25’ insert that image? Will you let me know what code he used?)
My French is so pathetic. I know yours is much better, so why don’t you ask him and then tell me! <3 Be well my friend~
I feel nostalgic for having visited Lisbon.
I can understand this well. It is a lovely city~
Of course, I love the street art! I’m not able to blog much these days due to long working hours. 7 more weeks of insanity. Then, re-entry.
Woo Hoo for seven days. It sounds like your returning from space! 🙂
Yeah…returning from space in 7 weeks, not days, but woo hoo for 7 days! I’ll have a whole day to myself next weekend, so I’ll see you then! Keep having the best time, Cindy! <3
<3 <3
Always fabulous photos!!!

Abrigada Carmen! <3
I enjoyed the Lisbon scenery, the murals on walls and especially the waterfront and bridge, Cindy! I love Morrison, along with your use of his words. These are treasures! Enjoy and will check out your other posts. . .
We head back to Lisbon by train tomorrow. I am looking forward to spending more time there. I agree with you about the waterfront particularly. It may be the prettiest I’ve seen.
Wow that artwork, you have made it come alive in your pictures…amazing photos 🙂
I am so impressed with people who create art for it’s own sake. Such talent and such a gift for all of us!
I know Cindy sometimes I am just in awe of those who have such a talent and who share it 🙂
<3
The exposure you used on that first shot ~ wow. Pretty great intro to Lisbon and Portugal…a destination I hope to see one day. I think it is the sea-faring history of Portugal that would interest me the most, for as you have quoted above “Trade winds and galleons lost in the sea, I know that treasure is waiting for me.” ~ Cheers…
Yes, their history of sea exploration is incredible! In California, most of the cities, are named after or by Spanish or Portuguese explorers. It is nice to go to the places the explorers came from, and get a sense of the still living history.
I think back to my middle-school years, and the Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese explorers blew me away, I could not believe all they had done. One day I will follow you to those places you’ve been 🙂
I know you will and I can’t wait to see your photos and read your narratives~
Respect for one’s forebears is seen in preservation of what they made long ago and not merely for themselves.
So important and so true~
Wow, what beautiful pictures.

Thank you for your thougthfulness! It is most appreciated Kally~ <3
The murals are really something. I wonder who the artist is? It’s like an alien came from the future and arrived in a past century and marvelled at how ancient this civilization is still.
Love this descriptor! The talent and creativity of these artists blow me away~
Stunning! Wonderful pictures 🙂
Awww, so thoughtful and happy Saturday!
Thank you Cindy. 🙂
<3 <3
Fantastic picture! Wow
Abrigada!
You have captured the stunning colours and art at the heart of Lisbon. Our favourite city. We never tire of it. Have followed your journey backwards just before we start another back to the UK. Hoping you will come back soon and try the sleepy but fiesta loving Aracena.
Portugal is so lovely. I still have more to post about it. The cities are so unique and beautiful. I can see why you keep going back. Enjoy your time in the UK! <3
Yes,and I would like to go back to Rhodes.Hope you enjoy your visit there.
I am excited to see more of the Greek Isles! <3 <3
