The Holler really is ‘for the birds,’
but, then, as you’ve probably noticed by now, so am I!
They make the nicest neighbors,
greeting us in the mornings, and flocking in droves to the feeders at sunset.
Our son calls the roadrunners our “pets.”
But they are wild creatures, who choose to live inside the refuge of our fences, which protect them from the Holler Wiley E’s.
We also have found our refuge here, amongst this wild family.
Cheers to you from wild creatures great & small because they are your family too, after all~
I love these beep-beep birds! The fourth one down made me grin, sooo cute 🙂
This is when he comes right up to the window and watches us. I couldn’t resist taking photos of it through the glass. So glad you like it!
It was many years before I found out the Roadrunner wasn’t just a cartoon character. You may call be backward, if you want to, I don’t care!
Oh how cool and I have never seen a roadrunner before. You have such wonderful feathered buddies to entertain you and to watch.
Feathered friends are the best friends! <3
Fantastic photos Cindy. The road runner is such an unusual shape, being so long and skinny! <3
He can morph too, lift up and get tall and skinny, scrunch down and get compact and plump, and raise his frill and look like a colorful like a rooster!
Hi ,Cindy, I love the photos of the birds.
Aren’t they the best neighbors ever!
wow wonderful photos of your wonderful neighbours!
Yep, and they never cause a single conflict!
Unlike most neighbours, lol!!
Unfortunately, sometimes true! Humans sometimes do a poor job getting along…..
Cindy, your photos of your birds always blow me away! They are incredible!
Awww, so nice and so very encouraging! Thank you Lynn & cheers too~
Birds are intelligent. These beautiful wild creatures made a great choice — to live inside the refuge of your fences. 🙂 Another set of beautiful images, Cindy. Love the roadrunner captures! 🙂
I just feel very lucky to live with them! Cheers to you Amy and thank you my dear friend~ <3
🙂 <3
I so want to see road runners up close! They’re so cute!
They are the most unusual birds, halfway between a reptile and a bird! They are incredibly fun to watch, and errrrrr….. be watched by!
LOL! Ah, when the watcher becomes the watched. 🙂
I can’t believe how small roadrunners really are.
I know, they seemed four feet tall in the cartoons didn’t they!
I have only seen road runners on a couple of occasions so happy to see them in this post. Such vivid photos Cindy. gorgeous as always.
Thanks, the beeping one only allows a certain amount of photos. I think his agent sets the limit…….
🙂
Lovely photos, fun to have the birds around and watch their antics and they do ours, I am sure of that too.
Yes, they are hobbyist people watchers.
We both did bird posts today! Great images – I love the feeders because they bring the birds so close to us.
They do and I loved you photos!
Smart birds. They know to love the hand that feeds them.
They are the very best neighbors! <3
Wonderful! I especially love the photograph of the blue-capped bird.
Alison
Yes, a juvenile western scrub jay. They are fairly rare here!
I love their expressions!
Aren’t their eyes wonderful? Such intelligence looking back at us!

I so appreciate your advocacy Sharon, on behalf of all wild creatures. We need you! <3
Cindy, I just shared these with my mom tonight and she is just awed by the diversity of visitors you have in your area (as am I). She was especially awed by the roadrunner images because she didn’t think we had any here. Marvelous close-ups as usual. I can really see their expressions and glints in their eyes! <3 ~Lynn
Awwww, I am so pleased your mom enjoyed the birdies Lynn and she is right, the roadrunner really is a most unusual bird. It can glide resembling flight, but not fly. It can jump easily on to the roof. It catches super long snakes and is undeniably curious about us. Anytime we put something new outdoors, the roadrunners must thoroughly investigate it. If you follow them, they will keep you at arms length, if you ignore them, they will follow you. Love them!
what an amazing range of birds you have – and how amazing they all are too, so different and each so filled with their own unique character.. your photos are marvellous too, the way you catch their personalities
They do have personalities, even intra-species, and their eyes do reveal this. So pleased you noticed Valerie!
Lovely! The roadrunner reminds me of the cartoon. Beep beep!\(◭‿◭)/
Chuck Jones drew Beep-Beep. I read that he watched roadrunners and coyotes at his Southern California home many decades ago and came up with characters and the dynamic between them. He must have lived in a Holler like place. When I first saw The Holler, I said, this must have been what Southern California was like in the 1950’s! Check out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Jones
Very interesting! Thanks for the information! ٩(^◡^ )

A foot tapper especially for you.
Beep, beep’m beep beep yeah
oops, I’ll try that again.
A foot tapper especially for you.
Beep, beep’m beep beep yeah
Thanks for the song:) Oh yeah! tap, tap, tap….
You didn’t need to try it again, I was with you at the first beep, beep, mmm, beep beep, yah! I grew up on the fab four, just like you Graham. Love ’em, and am a huge admirer of Sir Paul’s conservation efforts today! <3 <3
The $^*$£ WP comment editor cut me off (all I did was press return) before I could plant the youtube short code.
Never mind, it’s all part of the fun.
“I shot the the sheriff ~” tee hee 😀
Just be grateful you didn’t shoot the deputy…..
So interesting that you find refuge in your wild neighbours and they do in you…wish it was like that everywhere!
Wouldn’t that be wonderful!
So do I. People cheat themselves from happiness if they don’t spend time amidst the wild ones. They have so much to teach us and I am learning everyday.
Absolutely stunning!
Awwwww, so kind and so appreciated!
More beautiful bird photos! Your roadrunners are particularly appealing perhaps because I remember the childhood animations of roadrunner and coyote. 🙂
I grew up with the cartoons too, and only occasional sightings of roadrunners in SoCal, and never expected the gift of living with multiple ones who I see constantly. Wonderful! Check out Beep-Beep’s creator, he lived in a Holler like place decades ago, and observed both the roadrunners and the coyotes and their dynamic to come up with the characters! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Jones
Thanks for the link, Cindy. Very interesting. 🙂
Such a wondrous sanctuary and beautiful neighbors.Thank you for sharing the views, Cindy 🙂
You know, probably better than I Carol, that wild ones make the very best neighbors.
<3
Great!!! I am wondering why your son call RR pet. Do they come close to you?
We call all the roadrunners The Beepers after the cartoon character. They will come somewhat close if you are busy doing something they are curious about. I just remembered something funny. We had a huge Great Blue Heron come to live at The Holler. He was over 4 feet tall. He hung around for days and the roadrunners were cowed by him. I finally called wild bird rescue because I was concerned that he wasn’t drinking. Rescue came out and caught The Heron to take him to rehab. The roadrunners came out in group to watch the capture process which I admit was most interesting. They stood there gaping with no concern that they were next to us and the rescue woman. I got the distinct impression they were very pleased to see the heron go…… 😉 Oh, and btw, The Heron recovered, he needed an IV, but flew back to the lagoons after a week or so in rehab.
That was a great experience.
Great photos! a smile for my morning.
Yay, you just gave me mine!
Thank you very much Cindy….💗💗💗
Thank you more for the appreciation!
🙂 💗 🙂 💗 🙂

I agree lovely and peaceful neighbors ❤️ Great photos and the road runner is so neat! I have never seen a pic of a real road runner! 😎😄
So very pleased I could show you them and that you liked them. They are fascinating characters!
Roadrunners are such funny looking things! I love the variety of birds you have. What a treat.
Yay! Makes me happy I posted! Thank you~
The roadrunners are very cool – you have the most fascinating place to call home!
The critters make sure everyday is interesting outside!
Such beautiful captures! 🙂
Thank you Linda and Happy Sunday!
We have a small roadrunner colony in our forest. When I was trying to photograph him, he ran incredibly fast up a pine tree. Gorgeous photos.
Wow, that would be fun to see! They can move faaaaast! Like lightening. Remember the cartoons, where he would run so fast he would turn into vapor? Laughing…..
I emailed the photos (of Mr. Roadrunner) to our cul-de-sac and one neighbor asked if I had seen the Anvil. Funny Guy…
laughing…….
Absolutely Cindy! They make great neighbours, sing us awake and so much more. Are there some owls hiding out?
Oh yes! Great Horned owls. They will hoot back and forth with me at night and nest in one of our oak trees. It is very, very rare to see them though.
Cindy, I have no doubt you and your camera will catch one and do it justice!
I hope I get the opportunity!
nice neighbors, Cindy!
thanks for letting me
get a glimpse of them 🙂
Thank you more for appreciating them!
Cindy, you have a beautiful bird family. I would love to hear birds right now instead of screaming kids and adults in pools etc. Enjoy 😀
Yes, I would have to agree that bird song is far preferable! <3
Felicidades por tener unos vecinos tan interesantes. 😉
Si, nunca discuten con nosotros !! 😉 😉
Such GOOD photos, Cindy — I love seeing The Holler’s bird up close!
Well, of course I meant “birds.” Silly computers!!
I do not see typos, which is obvious if you read my stuff! 😉 😉
Dear Cindy, I enjoy studying the beautiful birds in the Holler and cab sometimes see every feather on your fine photography. After so many visits, I ha e begun packkng. I have come to the company clusion that there is room there for one more bird. Surely, I will be witless and lonely no longer. . . I realize my “mate” is waiting! Bye bye, Ohio and Hello, Holler! xo Robin bird 🙂
We have no robins at The Holler and we need one! I await your arrival with pleasure and am certain you will attract many more! <3 <3
Beautiful, Cindy…as always… :_0

That’s “meep-meep!”
Yes! There are two versions. Meep & Beep! 🙂
I couldn’t agree with you more. Our feeders and bird baths are a constant delight.
Can you imagine living without wild birds? I can’t!
Your pictures are beyond amazing! A rare treat for the eyes <3
Awwww, you are so kind and so appreciated! Thank you~
<3 <3 it's the truth : )
Beautiful, beautiful shots and I LOVE having birds for neighbors and I so miss the summer birds when they migrate for the winter.
I know exactly how you feel. I am hoping we can hold on to the orioles this winter. So far so good. The Anna hummingbirds stay year round, but the rufous and allen’s have left already. A couple black chins are still here. All the other birds stay year round thank goodness or I would miss them terribly! You have my full empathy.
We have woodpeckers, cardinals, chickadees, tufted titmice and a couple other winter hardy birds in the winter. I appreciate them dearly but they ate so quiet when the snow is on the ground. I love when the spring air is full of cheerful bIrd songs!
Still, there must be a loveliness to such clearly demarcated seasons, the cycle of reanimation and winter slumber.
Those RR are beautiful. I’m glad you’ve given them sanctuary.
They never actually asked us. It’s more like we had to ask them permission to move into their home. I’m not sure if they gave it completely willingly. Laughing…….
And you’re still bribing them! Or is that your rent? 😉
They are the only birds I don’t feed. Maybe this is the issue!!
Beautiful birdies!
Glad you like them and be well my friend! <3
Great photos of the birds!
Mil grazi!
Beautiful bird portraits. You got wonderful clarity in these images.
Thank you and thanks to my sony!
Roadrunners are neat looking birds. Great series, Cindy.

Beautiful images and lucky birds to have those feeders readily available for dinner!
They reward us with their continual presence! <3
Great shots – love the roadrunner! RH
Thank you and he is quite a character!
Great photo detail
Mi grazi!
Sooo, sweet, cheep, cheep! Cindy, if you were a bird, which one would you be? 🙂
Definitely a fishing eagle on the Kamchatca Pennisula. Man, they are spectacular birds!
oh, I love the first bird’s pose – so sassy!
Aren’t they wonderful. I haven’t seen them for a few days. I will have to research if they migrate.
Great photos.
Mil grazi!
Amazing pictures
Well thank you kindly!
You have road runners? How wonderful!
We have a couple of them, they tend to stalk visitors! 😉
So schöne Aufnahmen, danke Cindy…
