It is time to say goodbye to peaceful Brugge. (Please click to enlarge).
Brugge seems to be the land that crime, strife and stress forgot.
The windmills on the perimeter of the old city were built in 1770.
They can be toured, but few tourists did while we were there, which is a shame because they are mechanical works of wonder and a challenge to safely climb!
Although the tourist center is crowded with day visitors, the city empties out in the early evening.
Even in the middle of the day, the streets a few blocks away from the tourist center are mostly empty.
Brugge is full of beautiful old cathedrals,
and charming old homes built on the canals.
Cheers to you & farewell to beautiful Brugge~
So beautiful, I would find it so hard to leave – thank heavens we have our cameras to help our memories and to share them. Thank you for these wonderful posts, Cindy.
Susan x
Thank you more for your kind appreciation!
I came back again, and I am still loving these pictures. <3
History, beauty, strange new places and the majestic swans – how could anyone not be swayed by them? Wish I was there now, the weather woud be beautiful 🙂
Absolutely and utterly gorgeous!
That is Brugge!!! <3
Beautiful photos..! 😊
Very kind and appreciated!
Nice place and I love the swans :
>
Yes and they are friendly and come over when you call “Hi pretty bird!” 🙂
He he 🙂 I wish them to come to me and make friends with me. Just like Cinderella, sleeping beauty, Snow White, and even the enchanted lady are friends with the animals surround them
If you visit they will make friends with you Yoshiko as long as you speak to them nicely like I know you will. You will feel like you are in a fairytale in Brugge!
🙂
Where is this place you’re traveling Cindy? The photos are wonderful, the swans I hope that’s what they are, are gorgeous. The white ones reminds of a time when I was a young ignorant girl trying to make a short cut to home from school and was chased by one of them, I ran and screamed all the way home.
Yes they can be quite persistent “watch-swans” and downright snotty if you cross their territory!!! Plus they are BIG birds!! 🙂 This is Brugee in Belgium. Cheers to you my friend~
What a beautiful place, that you captured on photos so well, wish I will go back there one day…:)
I hope you do! It is like stepping into a time machine~
Such lovely photos. Like the swans, these folks seem to like their orange and red accent colors.
Aren’t they lovely accents. The whole place is visual candy~
Beautiful! Who would have thought Belgium had anything more than chocolate? 😉
And the chocolate is beyond my poor abilities to describe! I did take photos though!!! 🙂
Cindy, I love your photos and remember our one day visit to the city. Thanks for your BLOG! Best to you!
How kind and how appreciated!
So lovely, can’t help but think of the film, “In Bruges”
Yes, minus the assasins, but remember one of them was enthralled by the the architecture!!
Sigh, I guess you can’t have everything, but at least you have the buildings…
😉
Glad you had a great time in Brugge. I’ve been there 3 or 4 times, it’s one of the most beautiful cities of Belgium. And of course, don’t forget the pancakes and the chocolate… 😉
And the waffles……….. :O
Oh yes… So true!
Thanks for sharing your visit in Brügge, it was nice to see the city again 😉 Great photos.
Merci beaucoup!
Beautiful Brugge!!
Hey Arjun, you could take some fabulous fotos here!
I’m sure but not the touch, warmth you bring, trust me!
🙂
What a beauty this place is, and your photos are outstanding!
You are such a good friend Resa!
well captured – thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for appreciating!
It’s so beautiful and quaint. The buildings are lovely. It’s so strange that it’s so empty much of the time. Wonderful photographs. I truly enjoyed them. Thank you.
So happy you did & cheers to you~
It must be hard to say goodbye to such a beautiful place!
Indeed!
The beauty of old places never fades away. They stands out every time. Great images. 🙂
These are such wonderful photographs that you have shared with us, Cindy! I would love to go visit this quaint and historic town, loved the church, the red edges on windows, and the presence of water along the buildings. Brugges is gorgeous through your lens or lenses, Cindy!
Thank you my friend and I hope you do visit soon! Cheers to you~
Cindy, Keep having a GREAT time! Thanks so much for your SUPERB posts! Take care! 🙂
Very kind and appreciated!
Truly beautiful! T
The cathedral windows are stunning and the 1770s windmills is fascinating. What a charming town. Thank you for taking us along, Cindy!
You are the best traveler to have along Amy! <3
I loved your tour, Cindy! Beautiful photos that took me away to another world for a few minutes. Thank you.
P
Ah, so glad and thank you!
These photos are outstanding. What a quaint and adorable place. I expect Handel and Gretel to skip along any minute. 🙂
I must have missed them!!! 😉
Looks like a gorgeous place to visit! Gorgeous pics Hugz Lisa and Bear
Hugz and gratitude back to you two!
Beautiful photos, Cindy. Brugge looks like a magical place. 🙂
That is exactly what it is! 🙂
Just gorgeous, thanks so much for sharing….
Thanks more for appreciating!
It’s lovely to find a place that stress and strife forgot!! What a treat. Thanks Cindy for taking us along.
My thoughts exactly we have too much of this in the rest of the world.
I can almost feel the peace there! Makes me want to visit too and I know you’ll be in favour of that! So where to next?
Brussels and then on to Copenhagen, back to Germany and then…….. 🙂
Love this comment: “Brugge seems to be the land that crime, strife and stress forgot.” I hope it stays that way. Your pictures are idyllic — scenery that is so welcome after so much international strife in the news this week.
Yes we all need an escape from the insanity of the world right now!
Ah, the swans bring back memories…
Lovely!
“and charming old homes built on the canals.” I wouldn’t do to sleepwalk there, would it?
Well, one would wake up with a start……. 😉
Beautiful Brugge is correct and I think i would refuse to leave. 😀
I’m with you!! 😉
Lovely images, Cindy! A place without strife sounds good to me. 🙂
Yes, pathetic all the conflict we humans create!
I haven’t been there for over twenty years. I loved that town! So pretty. Great post. 🙂
It must have left some wonderful memories! Cheers to you~
It was so windy when we were there on the college trip that you could almost be at a 45 degree angle and not fall down! And the chocolate just blew me away. 🙂
A few years ago I read a book about Van Eyck’s life and I’ve since then been willing to visit this charming place. So, many thanks (twice as many!) for sharing with us these wonderful sights! 🙂
Hope you’re having a great time and enjoying your vacation!
There is a large statute of him in a central square and some streets and plazas named after him! I do hope you visit~
What amazing shots. I ‘Must’ go…
Can’t wait to see your pics!!!
So beautiful! Shame that the windmills were missed by visitors. I so would have been there!
Yes, quite fascinating and most intricate!!!
Such colourful pictures – how refreshing to get away from the crowds and find some space
Crowds and I do not mix well! Laughing…….
You’ve convinced me – I’m stopping in Brugge next time I’m in Belgium – lucky for me that should be soon enough 🙂
Ooooooh, can’t wait to hear about it!!!
Such a lovely place. I love the red window sills on the white painted house.
The colors are just lovely!!!
How tragic to have to leave such a beautiful place…it’s lovely 🙂
Yes, it seems like a place out of time! Sorry to go~
I am going to miss this beautiful place…thanks for the virtual vacation.
Those water scenes are so serene. Thanks
Lovely pictures with a great feel for the place. (I didn’t know that one could click to enlarge Brugge ~ do the Bruggians know :-D)
Cindy, these pictures and this place are wonderful. It’s like stepping into a fairytale.
Blessings ~ Wendy ❀
Cindy, this is one place I would love to visit. The pictures are so beautiful. It all looks so serene.
Thank you for sharing! Hugs! Veraiconica
The snap of the swans struck me. It’s soooo beautiful and not just the subjects.
Guess what, Cindy? I added WordAd to my blog today. Don’t know much about it now, but I certainly will in a few months. 😀 ))) Great photos as always!!!
I’m out of the loop on this, will check it out when I get back
Leaving so soon! 🙁
Five days was a good stay at Brugge, we have other places to go and people to see!!! 🙂
And lots more lovely sights to share with us. Thank you.

Vielen Dank Klaus, ich werde in ein paar Tagen wieder in Deutschland zu sein! Freue mich immer auf Deutschland. Alles Gute für Sie, mein Freund!
I have been to Brugge a few times, and I love it. One of my favorite paintings in my home is from Brugge. Thanks for reminding me how lovely the city was and still is.
So happy you have spent time here & cheers to you~
love your exquisite photos this beautiful place
Awwwww, love the kindness of this comment!
Thanks for sharing Brugge, a place I have never been to. It looks peaceful and ancient and full of many stories. Your photos, as always Cindy, are spectacular. 🙂
Awwww, and you as usual, are very kind!
So beautiful place!!! Great shots!!!
So happy you enjoyed them & cheers~
I saw this movie just before we left and thought of it when I toured The Belfry in Brugge. Remember the scene in the movie when the ticket taker wouldn’t let the asassin into the belfry because he was a penny short, after the asassin had sorted out all his change on the counter??? I think this ticket taker man now works in Brussels and I just met him at the bakery. Laughing….. The Ralph Fienes character would have ummmm, sorted this guy out rather swiftly. Still laughing……thanks for reminding me of the movie! Too hilarious……I still bought the flourless chocolate cake and almond croisants. What can I say? Even with extreme rudeness, I am powerless over pastry! 😉 😉
What a beautiful city! I remember that my daughter was so taken with it last summer. 🙂 Gorgeous swan pic.
Yes it is a place out of time and a wonderful retreat!
Brugge is a lovely introduction to Belgium – as your photographs demonstrate!
Exceptionally lovely city!
Beautiful photos..Brugge is indeed a really nice city!
Yes, remarkably peaceful!
Your pictures and captions are so beautiful. I feel I’m seeing parts of the world and wildlife I might never otherwise see when I view your posts. I don’t often comment, simply enjoy, but feel I have to say what pleasure your images and words bring.
Oh that is so kind and so motivating to me! Thank you~
Do the swans still ring the bell?
I heard in England ducks have taken over this duty!!!! Everyone (ducks and swans) were too laid back in Brugge to do it at least while I was there!!! 😉
Love your description of ” the land that crime, strife and stress forgot.” … plus the pics to support. Great windmill!
I was fascinated by the inner workings of the windmills and took lots of pics of the gears, pullies, wooden pegs and sand bags. Amazingly beautiful~
Ah, another place that’s just “for the birds” ! 🙂 Beautiful city…, one that’s on my “bucket list”. Am back home now. Trip was sort of a bummer, but they all can’t be wonderful. More on that later. Beautiful pics, Cuz.
Sorry about the trip but glad you are home safely. Interested to hear more. Hope you do come to Brugge. You will write lots of poetry and paint too and I would love to see this!
I wish to go back now more than ever. So so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your wonderful holiday photo’s. That cottage has Boomdee written all over it. Lovely lace in the windows. A dutch friend once brought me a lace hoop back from Holland, they are to shade the indoor plants from direct sun she told me. Oh my gosh, wouldn’t it be fab to wake up there every morning and watch the swans go by?
The cottages are the canals were so unbelieveably charming and it was nearly impossible to narrow down and pick the photo. Brugge is the sort of place where every photo is gorgeous. Sigh. Miss it already~
Love the photo of the swans.
Gorgeous creatures!
Charm with a capital “C”!
Agree with a capitol A, and beautiful with a capitol B! 😉
LOL with all capitals! 😛
Such a charming place, lovely photos!
So happy you enjoyed!
Such beauty in the land that time seems to have forgotten. Thanks for sharing! Can’t wait till the next step in the journey! 🙂
You Linda, are a joy to have along! <3
As always Cindy, beautiful photos of an amazing city. I was there four years ago. 🙂
We are practically close enough to holler at each other!!! Wish France was on the itin!! <3
C’est la vie! That just means that you will have to make another trip. I highly recommend it is strictly in France! 😉
Brugge is lovely. It was a bit of a drive from here but well worth it. However, we were on our way to Holland…
Ooooh have a wonderful time and next year……maybe we’ll actually connect! <3 <3
White swans and windmill… this place looks so romantic! 😀
Romantic. peaceful and a place out of time! Cheers to you Hari~
Wow!
Just what I said! <3
Extraordinarily beautiful! I am astounded that in this day and age there are still such lovely places that *aren’t* constantly overrun with the noise and chaos of tourists. It sounds (and looks, here) like a dream. I guess it has to move up my List of places to visit! 😀
It is very crowded in central old town during the day, but not crowded several blocks away and after 6pm. It is simply beautiful! Cheers to you & hope you visit~
I took the freedom to “Pin” some of your lovely photographs from this city in Flanders. (Next time you are in Belgium, we should meet.)
You are very kind and most appreciated!
I love especially traditional windmill photo. I always shoot photos from them when I see in Finland.
I WILL LOOK FOR ONE TO SHOOT FROM IN FINLAND WHEN WE ARRIVE IN NINE DAYS! THANK YOU!
Klasse Fotos. Wir kennen Brugge. LG. Wolfgang
Vielen Dank Wolfgang. Ich bin in Deutschland Wurnemunde während ich dies schreibe. Es ist ein schöner sonniger Tag an der Küste von Deutschland. Ich werde bald Bilder posten!
