Barn Owls, Holler Hawks in Flight & Happy Holidays to You!

We met this barn owl in Antelope Valley California. (Please click to enlarge).

He was rescued due to an injured wing and lives in a California state park named Velasquez Rocks (more on this park later).

His name is Scooter and he is cared for by the Park Rangers.

The Holler Hawks have been flying closer lately!

Sometimes quite close over my head which is a big thrill.

They have figured out I am not a threat to them.

I can identify different hawks by their missing feathers.

The best way to see a hawk of course is in free flight!

Sending wishes for the Happiest of Holidays flying your way,

  3. I have a special thing for owls, Cindy. They are so much under-played to all the other birds of prey, and just as beautiful.

Thank you Cindy! For everyone feeling trapped by the season (busyness, enforced festivity etc) , or by your daily grind, or anything really- find a dream of freedom and joy to dream. These images of clear blue sky and soaring hawks are perfect opening to another dream. For all readers of the Guardians of Gahool series this Tyto Alba( did I spell it right? ) is a beautiful link back to those adventures:-)

  5. Thank you so much for sharing all those wonderful photos of the wildlife ~ Merry Christmas, my dear friend!

  6. How grand to be near Lake Tahoe! My friend just moved there – to Dayton, Nevada and she absolutely loves it. May the winds in the holler carry my wishes to you Cindy for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! ~Dor

  7. What a handsome owl! 😀
Do you know that Chinese folks call an owl as a “cat-headed hawk”?
I guess this post is all about hawk after all, LOL!

By the way, have a wonderful Christmas! 😀

  8. Christmas night holy aside worries and sorrows. Open your heart and gets a touch of blessing that flows over the world tonight!

Whether this year’s holidays will fill your heart with joy, confidence, hope and love. And Santa will bring the most desired and unexpected gifts and those close to you.
    Merry Christmas

    1. I am getting a barn owl box when I get home. The county gives them to you if you agree to maintain it. The owls return each year and I am excited to see the hatching process. I hear them calling all the time. You can even get them with a camera in the box but this I won’t do………unless I find a read deal and read up on it! Cheers to you Sarah~

    1. Mine too! We are putting up a Barn Owl box. They should return to nest in it each year and I am so excited to see them which I rarely do because they are active after dark. Thank you much James & Happy New Year to you and yours~
