Road-runner, Cindy knoke is after you!
Road-runner, this is the best that she’s caught you.
Some of you were interested in more road-runner shots. Yesterday he decided to cooperate, in a road-runner sort of fashion…..I had the best time being toyed with by him as I chased after him to catch these shots. His game is to run, pause with a clear shot for a second, and then hide in Camouflage. Repeat process.
He clearly had a fine time, running me around like a fool. Just call me Wiley C. Here is a sequence, one shot after another.

Road-runners have territories that they patrol and fight to defend. They are immensely curious birds and like to watch what we are doing, especially when we are unaware. Truth be told, they are downright nosey. They make an odd whirring noise when they patrol. It is created by clacking their beak rapidly together He here is a sample (it is not as loud or clear as the real noise):

Road-runners like to eat rattlesnakes, which is another reason I like them. They grab the snake by the tail and bash it’s head on a rock and swallow. I have seen them running with half a snake hanging out of their beak.
Like herons, road-runners look and act as I imagine certain dinosaurs would. Birds are said to be similar to dinosaurs in many ways. Here he is, in the final shot, doing what he does best!

The pictures of the running roadrunner are fascinating and colorful.
But they leave me a bit Ho Hum for I have seen plenty of them running around my home.
What we really wanted to see is a picture(s) of Cindy running after the running roadrunner. 🙂

He doesn’t think he KNOWS! The hummingbirds own the air, the road runners, the land. Every time we buy something new outside, he has to run all over it. Hilarious!

I love roadrunners. Seeing one on my first trip to California (many moons ago) made my holiday.
They are the oddest animal…..so entertaining. Look at what they got me to do!!!

lol…love this fellow…especially that he eats rattle snakes! he is actually rather dignified…in a couple of photos it looks as though the feathers on the top of his head are ruffled…does he do this is he is annoyed? I’ve never seen one of these fellows before so thank you for sharing…

He’s just teased me. But he, like most critters, got curious in spite of himself, so I was able to get a fast sequence, where he just moved his head. He’s a handsome little Cuckoo isn’t he! I think he’s in the cuckoo family…..He sure acts like it!! Actually, to be honest, I acted far more cuckoo than he! lol!

Great capture and great little the documentary about the “Beep Beep” bird. A nice catch of the bird is running on the pavement.
BTW, I could help imaging you with a camera and the road runner playing hide and seek together. That would be fun to watch 🙂

Hmmmm. That would take some doing…..possibly on the 24 critter cam sent to video, but then, probably not. I’ve got them on it in the same night, but not the same frames. That would be epic! Maybe I could get the coyote lighting the TNT too!!!! Or cranking up the safe! 🙂

Road runners are odd-looking little creatures, aren’t they? I never realized that until I saw your really great pictures of them. It’s amazing that a little bird can take on a rattler — it seems like the bird would be the meal rather than the snake in that scenario! Fantastic, clear pictures, Cindy!

You photos were wonderful!! MY camera has a 50x zoom. My son calls the roadrunner “our pet,” as he is around 24/7 and seems like part of the family. He lets me get close enough to shoot, but not to pet! LOL! While I was away recently, my husband said he jumped over the roof and into our inner courtyard! Hilarious! Wish I’d been here for the shots!! 🙂
