The Birds of Patagonia! WOW!

DSC03748

Cinereous Harrier! The South American Harrier! These are stunning raptors that fiercely defend their nests. I got dove at today, inches from my head, which seriously got our attention. In a few photos you will see why. I ducked but was never afraid. It was a warning, establishing dominance. They then let me stay and take many photos! They have the second largest tail feather to body ratio in the bird kingdom and these babies can fly! I found five contiguous (joined together) feathers from the Harrier that I will post at the end. These joined together tail feathers were lost in an aerial conflict. We saw many of these sparrings. Sachem told me (see prior post) that these birds have significant spiritual meaning in many Native American cultures, and he dreamed that I would find these feathers. Check out his blog & my prior post about this! It is fascinating.

  1. If he thinks that was amazing tell him to HOLD ON!
One last thing you must do?
Find a hand full of herbs from around that area or your home area or both if you feel directed to do so and place them on those feathers, have yourself a little talk with your Supreme Being, and hold on!
Many years ago now, more then I wish to remember, one of my chiefs was making a Sacred gathering drum for me to use while traveling around Indian country because the tribe feared the loss of my grandfathers Sacred Drum, while out in the woods of the old Pequot Village a Bald Eagle landed on a branch just over his head while he was pulling the skin onto the drum. this male eagle watched for some time, only so did my chief both seemed to want the other to make the next move. For some unknown reason, as my chief telling me the story, he removed the skin. As soon as the skin was completely off the eagle pulled a feather from his neck and one from his tail and dropped them, chief said that the feathers took forever to land and land they did right into the middle of the drum. Both feathers are still in my drum and the drum is guarded constantly, every gathering that this drum came to being used of not, that tribe has received a blessing from Creator by an eagle landing into the middle of their circle and leaving behind a feather for that tribe!
