Spent all day today exploring the wonder of Chinatown in San Francisco. Found so much beauty to share. Let’s start with this hand-stiched artwork from China. It is incredibly intricate and detailed. Some of the pieces took multiple artists up to ten years to create. Take a peek at some of this remarkable artwork:

About cindy knoke

I retired early after 27 years as a psychotherapist/mental health director (Cindy Barton LCSW) and moved to the outer limits of no-wheres-ville to a home I call "the holler." My closest neighbors are coyotes (packs and packs of them and they are HUNGRY), rattlers (lots and lots of them and they are MEAN), and free range cows/bulls (the bulls aren't too friendly either!) Forget cell phones. They don't work out here. Forget GPS, it misdirects. It's best not to wander too much out here, the people (and their dogs) are kinda twitchy. To reach the holler your turn right at the reeking chicken farm, down a bunch of pot-holed semi-streets/dirt roads, past the abandoned refrigerators and occupied old RV’s and then things get kinda dicey. My friends usual reaction to the trip to the holler is, “you’ve got to be kidding!” Or, “Next time let’s meet half way.” This is our little bit of heavenly Appalachia right here in rural California. I blog about traveling which I do about three months a year, cooking which I love, photography, usually of my food and trips, books, holler happenings, and anything else that strikes my fancy. Stop by the blog and take a peek. It’s safe. I promise. Cheers, Cindy

  1. -You are in San Francisco ?!?!
-These embroideries are spectacular… I brought back a double sided, see-through, scenery, silk embroidery back from when we traveled to China in May 2010. Probably one of the most expensive souvenirs I brought back.

  2. So pretty! I always enjoy the Asian areas of the big cities, and I have noticed that the influence is MUCH stronger on the west coast. Kind of makes sense, doesn’t it?

    • I have seen this before…..Do know that all good embroiderary and weaving is more complex on the underside than the top….On the last day we happened by a closing gallery, got the sleeve portion of an Ming Dynasty gown and Ming Vase for a song….will see what this embroidery looks like on the back…can’t wait!

      • I can remember haggling over the price of some antique embroidery and antique hand knotted lace when I was in China. I drove a very hard bargain and came away well pleased. Then I did some sums in my head and realised I’d been haggling over 1 yuan, or about 16p (25 cents).

  3. This artwork is so beautiful. Such patience and attention to detail. Thanks for the like of my Weekly Photo Challenge post representing “Future Tense”.
