“I would not exchange my home on the range,
For all of the cities so bright.”
Dr. Brewster Higley wrote “Home on the Range,” in Kansas in 1873. He originally wrote it as a poem that was later turned into the song we all know. I think Dr. Higley would be right at home at The Holler and find that many things haven’t changed too much out here. We aim to keep it that way!

May I build a little cabin there??
Yes you may and you can keep some bees please!!!
Yes, I would not exchange it either. You are living in a gorgeous nature.
Nothing can beat the creations of our dear mother nature after all. She is the best artist of all time~
Beautiful! I wouldn’t trade living so peaceful for anything, Just me and nature
Yep….That is exactly how I feel! Glad you understand~
Living in the concrete jungle of Vancouver for so long, I absolutely do
Yes but Vancouver is a vibrant city, and steps away is all of glorious Canada. I wanted to move to the Sunshine coast for retirement, but my husband was hesistant. Canada’s wild beauty knocks my socks off. We went up the Knight Inlet and hung out with the grizzlies and the orcas in Telegraph Cove. I am a full bore Canada-phile! Our next trip after Europe is back to Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise. Stunning!!! We recently rented a cabin in the north woods in Quebec…there were wolves and wolverines….Heaven!!
Will you adopt me???
Abso-roof-ly! As long as you bring your dog(s) !!
Is there a limit on those??
Nope lots of room out here!! The coyotes would learn some manners….depending on how big the dogs were…..Goldens, they are just too sweet for the coyotes.
The light play in the first one is amazing.
Merci my dear…am enjoying your posts immensely!
I love how you love so much….
Awww. So sweet! Thank you for knowing~

Mil grazi…one thousand thank yous! I am honored truly~
Your wild flowers look like the ones I have to work really hard to cultivate in my garden
In the Holler you can sing Home on the Range as loud and as long as you like; what fun.
You can do pretty much anything as loud as you want. Don’t tell anyone, but I sometimes howl along with the coyote packs. They are used to it now. They used to silence when I did, now they sort of incorporate it……too funny! But shhh! It’s embarrassing……
That’s hilarious. I would probably do the same. I howl with my dog.
Love the beautiful rolling hills and meadows…, and the stream…, and the wildflowers. Beautiful, Cindy. You must get bored with all this beauty every day !!! NOT !!!
Paul
It changes so much seasonally that one can’t get bored and we haven’t even begun to explore all of it. So you are right cuz, NOT!
Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please give your wife my condolences~
Lovely!
Merci!
Beautiful……nope I wouldn’t trade that spot for anything either. Enjoy as spring approaches
Spring is the most beautiful time here. Thank you and you enjoy your ongoing adventures as well. Love to hear about them~
I think you’re right about Dr. Higley. And, it is understandable that you wouldn’t exchange your home on the range. I wouldn’t either if I lived there. How can you possibly improve on paradise? It’s gorgeous.
It’s funny. because when I looked at the stanzas of the original poem, I thought, “this guy gets it….back in 1873!” It makes me happy to think he might not be too appalled if he came out here because there is a sense of time slowing down here and a lack of “progress” and development. Thank God! Cheers & thanks for getting this also! No surprise there~
OMG, that first photo is so impressive! The Holler seems perfect for a million photo shoots.
It is true…..HELP Mr Wizard, I have too many photos!! LOL~
Looks like an Eyvind Earle painting, Cindy. Especially, the fourth photo. Love the serenity of the creek. Thank you for sharing. {{{Hugs}}} Kozo
Yes the landscapes are similar…I hadn’t thought of this. There is this odd, arty shot of the creek, that looks even more Earle-like. I didn’t include it because it was sort of out of place. I’ll post it soon though as it interested me. One never knows what one’s camera is going to do……Hugs back to you & thanks too~
Love the title!!!
Me too, cuz it’s true & thank you! Sweet Rebecca~

So kind of you. I appreciate it & thank you!!! You Rock~
My pleasure. How could I not share?
Absolutely breathtaking., thank you so much for sharing
How lovely, I feel like walking barefoot through the pasture, valley and cold clean river water..
It is quite pristine becuase practically no one visits!! Cheers to you & thank you for your comments!
Heaven on Earth and so fulfilling that you enjoy living there so much, I enjoy looking at your pictures and reading about your passion
How nice! Thank you. I think I landed in the right nest! Cheers to you
Wow ! No other word can suffice the work put and the magnificence of the intentions. Your title sums up the beauty still beheld in its original form.
Regards,
Yes living here is like going back in time in am time machine, like California was 75 years ago or so….Thank you for your preceptive comment and wonderful blog~
So beautiful Cindy, your photos show a slice of heaven (even with coyotes and snakes) How long have you been living here?
I thought it was 5 1/2 years but my husband says 4 1/2…..somewhere around there. Cheers to you~
Time flies doesn’t it?
Reminds me of where I have some relatives in The country…though much of that area is also being built up. They’ve got a bunch of family that still produces fresh maple syrup. Enough land and neighbors lands to hunt. They use what they catch. I’ve only got a little piece of suburbia now. I’ve lived in the big city. But I’ve grown used to my little bit of space here.
I did send you an e-mail, and posted your ‘gift’. I hope you and the lovely couple enjoy the words
Since pieces are on the small side I’ll slip them here too…For the future Mrs. and Mr.:

I must have miss-typed your address as it bounced back. At least you have the verse here.
Cheers.
Absolutely stunning. I will give these to Dre & Sean and they will be dearly touched, as am I. Thank you for your kind thoughtfulness!! Cheers to you my friend and sincere thank yous~
beautiful photos, I heard vancover was a very nice place to live for being so far north, relativly speaking compared to say calif or ohio or new york, but I heard it was very expensive, personally I don’t like cities, but you seem so close to wilderness it is probably worth it.
Our rancho is in a rural part of southern California, believe it or not!! I was talking to another commenter who lived in Vancouver. I prefer wilderness too! Thank you for dropping by & cheers~
so beautiful….. the first picture is my favorite, I wonder if there are fish in there
Someone else has tasked me with finding this out, so I will let you know….probably are! Thanks for popping by~
What a beautiful photo of the early Spring wild flowers, the colors had immediately my attention !
Yes the early spring ones are especially delicate and pretty. Thanks for noticing & cheers~
I wouldn’t exchange my home on the range either if I had all that beauty around me! Awesome sights to wake up to
It’s fun in the morning becuase the birds are so active…the roadrunners often watch us through the window and it is not unusual to wake up with one watching you intensely through the glass…..Hilarious!! Snoopy little buggers!
Cindy, what a beautiful world to live within! I love the creek!!
Judy-
I looked up where your dad lives….gorgeous!! I love the creek too. It has a little waterfall, if I get the time to photograph, I’ll post….It is an untouched creek which is unheard of in Southern California. Cheers to you & thanks~
Thank you!
Beautiful photos Cindy, what a fantastic area you live in
Thank you Elleenie, as do you! Cheers~
Looks pretty darn appealing after the traffic I battled on my way home today. Those are some wide open spaces for sure.
It is remarkable how intolerant one becomes to crowds after living without them!! Cheers to you & thank you for visiting~
