About cindy knoke

I retired early after 27 years as a psychotherapist/mental health director (Cindy Barton LCSW) and moved to the outer limits of no-wheres-ville to a home I call "the holler." My closest neighbors are coyotes (packs and packs of them and they are HUNGRY), rattlers (lots and lots of them and they are MEAN), and free range cows/bulls (the bulls aren't too friendly either!) Forget cell phones. They don't work out here. Forget GPS, it misdirects. It's best not to wander too much out here, the people (and their dogs) are kinda twitchy. To reach the holler your turn right at the reeking chicken farm, down a bunch of pot-holed semi-streets/dirt roads, past the abandoned refrigerators and occupied old RV’s and then things get kinda dicey. My friends usual reaction to the trip to the holler is, “you’ve got to be kidding!” Or, “Next time let’s meet half way.” This is our little bit of heavenly Appalachia right here in rural California. I blog about traveling which I do about three months a year, cooking which I love, photography, usually of my food and trips, books, holler happenings, and anything else that strikes my fancy. Stop by the blog and take a peek. It’s safe. I promise. Cheers, Cindy

    • Yes, except your photos, paintings and poems reveal the incredible beauty of where you live! Snow is delicate and lovely. Most every place has it’s own beauty as does most every person. Especially you Paul!

    • I don’t think so, but am not sure. They grow from bulbs and will return if you treat them right. I’ve grown them for many years but I honestly don’t know the answer. Will need to look it up~

    • Oh you can paint also! Figures. You are a seriously multi-talented person. Would love to see your paintings. We have almond trees blooming here also as a matter of fact, but the blossoms are white. Cheers to you my friend & merci!

      • Our slice of suburbia isn’t really all that much. Mostly shaded back yard – edged by a creek. but it is ours :)
Very worth it to be able to look out the back windows and see birds, butterflies and a nice piece of sky. It got up to the low 40′s this afternoon. Not warm enough for me to stay out for long.

  1. Oooh! They’re gorgeous! It’s been very spring like here for the last few days….I was very hopeful until I heard this morning that freezing temp’s are set to return tomorrow down as low as -10 in some places and more snow is on the way! Oh well ;) It was good while it lasted!
