About cindy knoke

I retired early after 27 years as a psychotherapist/mental health director (Cindy Barton LCSW) and moved to the outer limits of no-wheres-ville to a home I call "the holler." My closest neighbors are coyotes (packs and packs of them and they are HUNGRY), rattlers (lots and lots of them and they are MEAN), and free range cows/bulls (the bulls aren't too friendly either!) Forget cell phones. They don't work out here. Forget GPS, it misdirects. It's best not to wander too much out here, the people (and their dogs) are kinda twitchy. To reach the holler your turn right at the reeking chicken farm, down a bunch of pot-holed semi-streets/dirt roads, past the abandoned refrigerators and occupied old RV’s and then things get kinda dicey. My friends usual reaction to the trip to the holler is, “you’ve got to be kidding!” Or, “Next time let’s meet half way.” This is our little bit of heavenly Appalachia right here in rural California. I blog about traveling which I do about three months a year, cooking which I love, photography, usually of my food and trips, books, holler happenings, and anything else that strikes my fancy. Stop by the blog and take a peek. It’s safe. I promise. Cheers, Cindy

    • Wonderful!! Wish it were true! I am enjoying your posts. I think about them sometime later after I read them. They pop into my head. They are thought inducing and interesting. Thank you for them. I was thinking re: your posts, about Edna St. Vincent Milay, and her bio, “Savage Beauty.” Seriously fascinating woman and life. Not happy by any means, but very interesting. You might be interested. Although it’s hard to find time to read now with the blogging. Cheers to you Rebecca & thanks too~

      • Thanks for the recommendation – so very much appreciated!! I found “Savage Beauty” by Nancy Milford in the library. I also found the biography of “Zelda” by Nancy Milford. You are right – there is so little time! AAAGH….

      • So glad…It is interesting isn’t it, because I know you and I both are major life-long readers, but blogging has changed that. We are still reading, but reading blogs, and of course writing them. So maybe after a lifetime of reading, we have a right to shift gears. But still I wish I could do everything, I have so many books loaded on my fire……So much to read, so little time. Isn’t life wonderful? I am glad I found you my friend.

  1. The photo of the butterfly is spectacular, Cindy! As are the others. You capturing the hummingbird like that while it’s flying and all that gold and even its expression, wow that’s just amazing.
